Government amendments to the Renters’ Rights Bill - June 2025
I was going to write an article for DASH landlords today on the Government amendments to the Renters’ Rights Bill that came out last week in advance of the Report Stage starting on 1 July.
However, I then saw Suzanne Smith’s (also known as the ‘Independent landlord blogger’) had released a great YouTube video giving her take on the news.
Suzanne's video is clear & covers exactly what I would have said therefore I thought ‘why re-invest the wheel’ so I am sharing that instead.
As you will hear there were some unexpected changes, and Suzanne explains each of the government amendments and what they mean for landlords/agents, as well as her predications on when they will come into force :
- New transition arrangements for rent in advance
- Scrapping pet insurance
- Potential for rent increases to start earlier after tribunal appeal
- Different rules for notices to quit for joint tenants
- How some student accommodation will be exempt
- Councils' increased rights of entry to suspected residential tenancies.
