Less than half of Brits check if their gas engineer is working legally

Do you check your gas engineer is registered as with Gas Safe?

According to new research only two in five people (41%) who hire a gas engineer spend time checking they’re working legally before letting them into their home, potentially putting themselves at risk of gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide poisoning.

Ensure your appliances are not worked on illegally by following Gas Safe Register’s top tips:

  • Only employ a suitably qualified Gas Safe registered engineer to do gas work - you can check they’re registered at GasSafeRegister.co.uk or call 0800 408 5500.
  • Don't cut corners - always ask to see your engineer's Gas Safe ID card.
  • If you suspect someone is working on gas illegally, report them to Gas Safe Register.
