    Benefits of attending

The Private Rented Sector (PRS) has now become bigger nationally than the social housing sector. As its size and significance increases, it is an appropriate time for housing professionals and its main professional body, the Chartered Institute of Housing, to be asking what role we have in shaping and influencing policy in the PRS.

This is something that CIH in the East Midlands is particularly interested in exploring, and to this end is hosting an informal “Unconference” event in the morning of 22nd November 2018 in Leicester to bring together a range of people with an interest in the PRS and to capture their thinking and ideas. “Unconference” means that there is no formal agenda – people will decide on the day what they want to talk about. Given the breadth of topics concerning the PRS there’s certain to be plenty to talk about…

We’re delighted that as part of the event Dr Julie Rugg will be giving a presentation of her 2018 review of the PRS and we will also be joined by representatives from the following organisations: Crisis, Residential Landlord’s Association, Joseph Rowntree Foundation, Nationwide Foundation, CaCHE, Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, DASH as well as CIH of course so delegates can expect some fantastic discussions.

The outcome we seek from this is a steer on how CIH should be seeking to shape policy on the PRS, with a view to forming a CIH special interest group to develop policy and identify the key policy areas we should target
